Beetle - Tomarus

Beetle - Tomarus
Lady Lake, Lake County, Florida, USA
January 6, 2006
Size: 15mm
Found in the woods on what was a walking trail, but has become the 4 wheeler racetrack! Not living, missing most appendages, has wings, hoping with the pronotum, it could be ID'd.

Beetle - Tomarus Beetle - Tomarus

Bothynus gibbosus, Carrot Beetle?
This is a wild guess based on similarities to the drawing in the Peterson Field Guide to Beetles. Phillip, Eric or Patrick will know more.

Tomarus.
I see from the guide page the genus is now called Tomarus.

I thank
you both for your help and time.

You got it.
There are several species - four in Florida. The pronotum with depression and apical tubercle is pretty much a dead giveaway, except T. neglectus.
