Wierd fly - Hoplocheiloma totliana - female

Wierd fly - Hoplocheiloma totliana - Female
Plantation, Fort Lauderdale County, Florida, USA
January 8, 2006
Just wondering what kind of fly this could be, it looked like some kind of fruit fly at first, then I noticed its back end.... anyone sure about this one?

Moved from Stilt-legged Flies.

Micropezid
This is a fly in the Micropezidae. Florida is rich in these though there are a limited number of species in the US.

See key here off Micropezid page:

This appears to be a female. Those wing markings are striking but this does not appear to be Taeniaptera.

Thank you
I was thinking that this was a female because it looked like she was laying eggs.
