Hackberry Emperor - Asterocampa celtis - male

Hackberry Emperor - Asterocampa celtis - Male
Pioneer, Campbell County, Tennessee, USA
June 11, 2010
Size: a little more than an inc
This butterfly was on a windowsill and spent much time on a spot where my cat had vomited last year. A great spangled fritillary and a morning cloak have also come to that spot and appeared to be trying to suck something off the wood. Mostly kept its wings folded but opened them for no more than a second or two several times. I got about 40 images during its two visits to the sill which lasted 10 to 15 minutes each.
