Giant Western Crane Fly - Holorusia hespera - female

Giant Western Crane Fly - Holorusia hespera - Female
Forest Grove, Washington County, Oregon, USA
June 20, 2001
Size: 40 mm
I am fairly certain this is correct ID, but I did't know how to create a category in this guide for it. My apologies for the label. I know it detracts from the photo, but this is the only specimen I ever found in all my observations. Crane flies are among the most delicate and fragile insects to pin and handle. Legs fall off almost just by looking at them! :)

Moved to new guide
I moved this to a new guide page for Holorusia rubiginosa. I don't know this group--somebody else will likely have comments on the identification.

I affirm.
Yes, this is a female Holorusia rubiginosa, and a fine specimen! Very nice. Just before we photographed my specimens for the field guide, I accidentally dropped a block on them and had to rebuild them! We have the technology....thank goodness:-)
