beetle larva

beetle larva
Polk County, Florida, USA
January 13, 2005
Size: approx. 25mm
This was found under the bark of a large oak tree stump. I had found three of these together. This was the largest them. Any help with i.d. would be appreciated.

Moved
Moved from Longhorned Beetles.

Cerambycidae
It certainly looks to me like a longhorned beetle larva. I've reared quite a few of them. It's not a prionid. At this size, a prionid would be tunneling deep in the wood and not under bark, and it's too elongate to be a prionid in any case.

Red oak borer?
Wonder if this might not be a red oak borer, Enaphalodes rufulus (spelling?). I understand this species is becoming quite the pest in older, even-age oak forests.
