Orangewinged Grasshopper - Pardalophora phoenicoptera - female

Orangewinged Grasshopper - Pardalophora phoenicoptera - Female
Weymouth Woods Preserve, Moore County, North Carolina, USA
June 4, 2004
Showing bright blue and orange markings on leg. This is presumably aposematic. the stain on the photographers fingers is a foul-smelling fluid exuded from the mouth when the grasshopper was captured. (The grasshopper was released unharmed after the photo session.)

This photo appears on pages 10-11 of Mary Ann McDonald's Grasshoppers (ISBN 1-59296-639-X, Chanhassen, Minnesota: The Child's World, 2007). However there was an error in the photo credits and they left me out.
