Soldier Beetle - Trypherus latipennis

Soldier Beetle - Trypherus latipennis
Geneseo, Henry County, Illinois, USA
June 18, 2005
Size: 1 cm
Can anyone confirm that this is a soldier beetle, possibly Trypherus? It was very small and I did not have time to zoom in too much before it flew off. I looked in the guide and one of the two photos under Trypherus looked very similar. Thanks.

I think you're right.
The elytra look a wee bit longer in yours in proportion to the others, but maybe that's a sexual difference rather than a species difference.

I agree.
Nice image. These beetles can be incredibly abundant in some cases.
