Identification
Overall appearance of this group is distinctive. Typical characteristics:
body somewhat flattened (depressed)
horns or tubercles (small rounded bumps) on head and (often) pronotum
clypeus rounded, with pointed tip, or small horn
pronotum with deep lengthwise groove in middle
mentum expanded, covering bases of labial palpi (Dynastinae key)
rearmost tibia truncated or digitate (having fingerlike projections) at apex (outermost end)
rearmost tarsomere 1 with a large spine at apex
Range
Genus Phileurus is widespread in Southeast.
