Pipevine Swallowtail in Hernando, Mississippi?? - Battus philenor

Pipevine Swallowtail in Hernando, Mississippi?? - Battus philenor
Hernando, DeSoto County, Mississippi, USA
June 19, 2010
Size: 12 cm wingspan
I've lived here for 17 years and have never seen this aqua blue butterfly.
It was difficult to get a picture of this aqua coloring because if the constant twitching of the wings as it checked out the pickering weed. The brilliant color also needed to catch the sun just right.
The Pipevine Swallowtail is not normally seen where I live, the agriculture extension agent didn't know what it was.
After learning it's identity, I have now proceeded to try to provide it with some habitat for reproduction (I already have flowering food).
I received 10 Dutchman pipevines yesterday, and a package of seeds from www.easywildflowers.com/Seeds.htm because none of my local nurserys had them. This butterfly is so lovely, but it only lays it's eggs on pipevines, and I want to encourage it to come back to my yard!
