Biting Orange Fly - Diachlorus ferrugatus

Biting Orange Fly - Diachlorus ferrugatus
Glassboro Woods, Gloucester County, New Jersey, USA
June 19, 2010
Size: ~1.75cm
These were quite common yesterday. They bit, but not painfully. I.e. more like a mosquito than a horse fly.

Moved
Moved from Flies. New Jersey is the northern limit of its range

Deer fly?
Probably something in Chrysops, but family Tabanidae for certain. Love those eyes!
