Size
8-10 mm.
Range
Widespread from Minnesota and South Dakota through Texas and Northern Florida, north to New England and the very southern part of Canada. Henri Goulet, "The Genera of Holarctic Elaphrini," Quaestiones Entomologicae, vol. 19 (1983): page 371. Other Elaphrus species do not range into the southeastern United States, or barely do.
Habitat
Found along the banks of rivers and large creeks, and occasionally in swampy habitats.
