Tetragnatha guatemalensis, male - Tetragnatha guatemalensis - male

Tetragnatha guatemalensis, male - Tetragnatha guatemalensis - Male
Starnes Island, Lake Travis, Travis County, Texas, USA
November 9, 2007
Size: not recorded
In 2007 four giant spider webs were identified in Texas (see here for a log and here for videos). Tetragnathids were collected from all of the webs. Hank Guarisco and Allen Dean identified T. guatemalensis in the two webs on Lake Tawakoni. I collected specimens from the two webs on Lake Travis. The males are easy to identify by their paracymbium fingers, and all the males I collected had them. Hank Guarisco informed me of this paracymbium finger rule of thumb and may even have been literally looking over my should for this ID.
