Small Beetle - Pachybrachis picturatus

Small Beetle - Pachybrachis picturatus
Emanuel County, Georgia, USA
June 23, 2010
Size: less than a half cm
This small, wary beetle was found in a sandhill swale containing longleaf pine habitat near the Canoochee River. I flushed it from a flowering Hypericum before it lit on a Carphephorus where I photographed it relatively early in the morning. Any ideas on an i.d.? Thanks.

Pachybrachis sp.
Cannot key out in Ciegler (2007) as several characters are not shown well in image (i.e. tarsal claws, etc). Several have a similar color pattern, especially with regards to the black 'M' on the pronotum. Reading species descriptions in Ciegler (2007), P. picturatus looks like a good bet, but I do not have comparitive material!

I too am in GA, if you have the specimen and send it to me, I can run it through the proper keys!
