This may be the same type moth with it's wings completely closed.

Bulia
New Mexico boarders Mexico and many moths from their make it over the fence, such as my image of a Black Witch which came from Mexico as one identifier pointed out.

Thanks Maury. It has been very hot a dry in the NM mountains and a lack of moths this year. Maybe when the "rainy" season starts.

Almost surely 8614 - Bulia deducta
Pretty safe to assume it is this species in your area. B. similaris might be found in patches along the Mexican border (but possibly not in New Mexico). (no rsvp, thanks)
