Pleasing Fungus Beetle - Megalodacne fasciata

Pleasing Fungus Beetle - Megalodacne fasciata
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
January 27, 2006
Part of a fantastic January walk, featuring many wonderful beetles under bark. I found my first Airora Bark-Gnawing Beetle, and found about 20 of the beautiful Red Flat Bark Beetle, Cucujus clavipes.

This Pleasing Fungus Beetle was nice find, only a few hundred yards from where I have photographed its near-twin species, Megalodacne heros. This species is smaller and has a slight variation in the markings, most visible along the line where pronotum meets elytra.
