Tortoise Beetle - Charidotella purpurata

Tortoise Beetle - Charidotella purpurata
Albemarle County, Virginia, USA
If I'm not mistaken this is genus Charidotella. It may be a color variety of the Golden Tortoise Beetle, Charidotella bicolor.

I see Nearctica.com has five Nearctic species of Charidotella. BugGuide lists Charidotella sexpunctata, but Nearctica.com does not.

I apologize for the lack of a date; the photo was taken about 1985 and the "collection" data did not survive. I feel quite sure the beetle was on one of the Morning Glories.

Moved
Moved from Charidotella.

Charidotella purpurata
I think we've got these Charidotella figured out, at least for the 2 species listed from the Northeast. see comments under

Thanks
Thanks Tim, and Thanks Downie & Arnett, moving to purpurata page!
