Moved from Rove Beetles. Thanks, v, I've moved them to subfamily, awaiting attention from experts.
Amazing little things--I thought they were Diptera, then thrips, and finally realized they were beetles.

those are in the Aleocharinae
a group of some ~200 NA genera, of which, say, 20-30... ?50 look like this to me; however, Taro Eldredge is the person to ask -- he's way better equipped to narrow these things down
