larva of...? - Arigomphus villosipes

larva of...? - Arigomphus villosipes
Great Brook Farm State Park, Carlisle, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA

probable newly molted unicorn clubtail:

Adult unicorn clubtail:

Moved
Moved from Pond Clubtails.

Based on the fact that the Unicorn Clubtail is common at that pond, and I've never seen any other similar species there.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

I also think Argiogomphus
There aren't all that many dragonflies with that elongate abdomen in the area where this was photographed, and it doesn't have the lateral spines that would make it a Dromogomphus, so Argiogomphus is most likely. A. furcifer and A. villosipes are both in that area, and furcifer has black tibiae, so it's probably villosipes.

Gomphid
And without keying it out (may be a bit dirty to do so), I suspect Arigomphus.

you better stick to the term 'naiad' you properly use for odes
:)

so
does "naiad" refer to any underwater insect larva?

i think it's more or less restricted to odes these days
at least(1) mentions the term only in the Odonata chapter
