Underwater Bug Nymph - Ranatra Delaware County, Delaware, USA
This bug nympmh (note the wing buds) was found during summer 2005 at a pond where there are praying mantids, dragonflies and damselflies.
It was very still. I don't remember if I nudged it a little to see if it was alive. I'm not sure if this is the underwater nymph stage of some certain insect or an unlucky nymph that happened to land in the water and is dead?
It looks like a praying mantis nymph that is dead just beneath the surface of the water, due to the characteristics of its arms they remind me of praying mantis arms.
