Ergates spiculatus ? - Trichocnemis spiculatus

Ergates spiculatus ? - Trichocnemis spiculatus
Aromas, San Benito County, California, USA
June 1, 2010
Size: 55mm total length.
I was out with my shiney new Milwaukee Super Hawg, drilling 1 inch holes (to hasten rotting) in the stumps of the Monterey pines which we had taken down last month, when I felt something crawling up my thigh. I promptly dropped my pants and found this guy. At first I assumed that it was another , but after viewing the photos, I noticed that it lacks the 3 prominent spines on the thorax. So now I think it might be Ergates spiculatus, but I don't notice the 3 raised bumps or calluses on the pronotum mentioned by (1), and it appears hairier than the other photos of Ergates spiculatus on BugGuide. (live oak/chaparral habitat).

Ergates.
Definitely that genus, and I am pretty certain there is a gender difference in the appearance of the pronotum.
