Unidentified chrysalis - Papilio glaucus

Unidentified chrysalis - Papilio glaucus
Eaton County, Michigan, USA
July 4, 2010
Size: 2 inches long
I was gathering large rocks from a rockwall in a pasture and my son noticed this chrysalis attached to the bottom of the rock. At first I thought it was a rotted piece of wood, but then it moved! It is green and brown and looks like decaying wood. About 2" long. I have now suspended it inside a bug cage using the "anchor lines" that were a part of the chrysalis. Anyone seen anything quite like this? I appreciate anything you can offer and I am continuing my research online.

There is a chance that it is a Canadian Tiger
Swallowtail, but I doubt it. That far south the Eastern is almost certainly correct. When it hatches (might not be till spring), you'll be able to be certain.
Moved from Butterflies (excluding skippers).

Moved from ID Request.

Probably Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
It looks like the chrysalis of an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus).

Thank you!
Wow! Thank you so much for the help! My son was ecstatic when he saw an image of an Eastern Swallowtail. LOL....It will be fun to see it emerge!

You're welcome
Always glad to help. :)
