Despite what the previous literature might say about distributions, Yves Bousquet needs collection data for accurately (microscopically) determined
Calleida punctata from the southern coastal states for his forthcoming catalogue on North American Carabidae. Those called "Calleida punctata" already on BugGuide from
Florida,
Florida, and
Louisiana were based on images that cannot be distinguished from southern
Calledia decora.
See species Info page for either
Calleida punctata or
Calleida decora for a technical key to species separation, also repeated here:

The technical
taxonomic key below is for separating the two similarly colored species
Calleida punctata and
Calleida decora which usually cannot be distinguished reliably without microscopic examination. Key is slightly modified by Peter W. Messer (2010.VII.5) after Lindroth (1969), The Ground Beetles of Canada and Alaska, p.1060.
Head densely punctate with short pubescence. Eyes small and flat, horizontal diameter not exceeding length of temples (head behind eyes). Elytra very shiny, microsculpture obsolete. Tarsi convex dorsally, not furrowed. Internal sac of penis without flagellum. Colored as
C. decora. Range: eastern half of North America but questionably into southern coastal states. 7.0 – 8.5 mm. ==>
Calleida punctata LeConte
Head glabrous (except for normal supra-orbital setae). Eyes large and prominent, their diameter much longer than temples. Elytra luster dull from strong, regularly isodiametric microsculpture. Tarsi dorsally flattish with longitudinal furrow. Penis with long flagellum coiled into the basal bulb when in repose. Colored as
C. punctata. Range: securely in the southeastern States, questionably into the midwestern States. 7 – 9 mm. ==>
Calleida decora (Fabricius)

If you do not feel comfortable in keying out specimens under microscope, I would be happy to accept such southern state specimens for examination. Thank you.
