Great Photo
I moved this one into the guide.

Dark Fishfly
Nice photo. This is a "Dark Fishfly". It is in the same family as Dobsonflies, Corydalidae. , The genus is Nigronia. There are just just two species, fasciatus and serricornis, but I have no idea how to tell them apart.

re: indentification
hi Patrick, thanks so much for your help. I couldn't find this one in any of my field guides, including 'Insects of the Great Lakes Region'. Glad to have a name for it, thanks again :)

Should be Nigronia serricornis
Based on range, this should be Nigronia serricornis. There are only two species, and A Guide To The Megaloptera And Aquatic Neuroptera Of Florida (1) says that N. fasciatus is not found in the upper midwest, so that leaves N. serricornis.

Now to figure out what I'm seeing here in NC, where we are supposed to have both. These have a short flight season, so it's tough to find them.
