Springtail - Isotomurus

Springtail - Isotomurus
Hudson, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
February 3, 2006
Size: around 1.5 mm
Found on some type of fungus -- I doubt if it's important what type since these things are on just about everything. I take it this is a so-called Snow Flea.

Isotomurus
Compares well with your more recent upload of Januari 14, 2007.

Great, all the way to genus!
Thanks, Frans.

Isotomidae
Hi Jim. Unfortunately, Snow Flea is a general name for springtails that are active on the snow. It can be a hypogastrurid but also an isotomid, depending on the source. This specimen is of the family Isotomidae. Genus could be Desoria, Isotoma or Isotomurus. Nice shot of the furca.

Thank you, Frans.
It certainly is great to have someone knowledgeable come along and make sense of a growing pile of unidentified critters :-)
