Explanation of Names

Homalocoris Perty 1833

From Greek homalos 'even, level, smooth, uniform' + koris 'bug' (probably refers to the flattened body)

Size

7-14 mm

Identification

Easily separated from Microtomus by size.

In Homalocoris the antennae are inserted near the eyes, the anteocular area is subequal to the interocular distance, the second antennal segment has 8-18 pseudosegments and the length is less than 16 mm. This is opposed to Microtomus in which the antennae are remote from the eyes, the anteocular area is over twice as long as the interocular distance, the second antennal segment has 23-28 pseudosegments and the length is 20 mm or more.
