Thanks!
Once you suggested a funnel-web spider, I checked the field station
invert list
, and I found that
Hololena curta
has already been reported. I wonder if that is a possibility? The faculty member who did the collection and identification is currently out of the country, but I'll see if I can contact him by email.

Yes,
I think it's possible. I don't have much experience with Hololena, so I can't be of much help. I hope you get a confirmation since if it is that, it will be a new species for bugguide.

Yes, possible; perhaps even probable -- Hololena curta is a common species in southern California. Looks like a juvenile.. [correction: just saw ventral view, it is immature.]

Our local invert specialist is back in town...
...and he says that he would guess from the photo that this is a juvenile
Hololena curta
. He says he can't be sure without looking at the specimen, but it looks like
H. curta
, and that certainly is one of the commoner species at the field station. The spider was still there last week, so I'll see if I can arrange for him to look at it.

Excellent
Thanks Nancy. If he's relatively certain (if ID can't be determined because it's not mature) I think it's fine if you move it there.

Moved to Hololena curta
I didn't think I could move the images because there wasn't a guide page for
Hololena curta
, but I see one has been created, so here they are. Also, I just checked today, and there are a number of these little spiders on the grape plant, so I'll work with our invert person to confirm the ID.
