Did you keep it?
It is my experience that caterpillars that drop to the ground from trees are looking for a place to pupate. I put them in containers with some paper towels and I have had a good rate of success getting pupae and adults. It is worth doing it.

Did not keep :-(
I often do "grow out" caterpillars, but since I didn't know the ID for this one, wasn't certain about host plant and had no idea it was ready to pupate, I released it after photographing. Next time I will know better. Thank you for the info.
