Syrphid Fly - Lejops polygrammus - Female
Medford, Jackson County, Oregon, USA
February 9, 2006
Is this some type of Syrphid Fly? It was moving from flower to flower, apparently collecting pollen. I saw it in the early afternoon.

Asemosyrphus polygrammus female!
Hello Aaron,
Yes, it is a syrphid. It is an interesting female specimen of the Eristalini! I think this is a female of the genus Asemosyrphus (sometimes placed in Lejops or Helophilus), because of the wing venation and the placing of the ocelli on the head! The only species in this genus is Asemosyrphus polygrammus!
Greetings,
Gerard Pennards

Thanks a lot for the ID, Gerard! I am a real beginner at this bug business, so any help is appreciated. Thanks again!
