Large Grasshopper or Locust? - Schistocerca obscura

Size: 3 inches or so
These are EVERYWHERE in my yard. I've been smacked in the head by them flying by, not very graceful but quite co-operative when being photographed. I'd just like to know exactly what type it is. And really just wanted to share the photo.
