Gull eating fire ants! - Solenopsis invicta

Gull eating fire ants! - Solenopsis invicta
Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County, Florida, USA
October 23, 2005
My friend Dr. Hui Ping Chen took these pictures when I was away in North Florida. She described the gulls swooping down and grabing beakfuls of ants. They are of course, fire ants in floating rafts. This is immediately following the passage of Hurricane Wilma through Florida, so there was major flooding.
