Seems as if the mimicry works: It is a flower fly (Diptera: Syrphidae) mimicking bumble-bees. Your shots showing a female specimen of Volucella bombylans.

Best way to tell them apart...
Look at the antennae on these guys, then look at the antennae of bees. The flys have aristate antennae, the three segmented antennae, with a hair sticking out. Bees have longer, more filiform antennae.
