Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
Neoscapteriscus Cadena-CastaƱeda, 2015

On the basis of a phylogeny proposed by Cadena-CastaƱeda (2015), all but two species formerly in the genus Scapteriscus, were transferred to Neoscapteriscus, a new genus.
Numbers
Three species are reported from the U.S. Others occur further south.
Range
Native from Mexico and Caribbean south through South America, the three North American species are believed to have all been introduced at the beginning of the 20th century.
