Swift Conehead - Neoconocephalus velox - female

Swift Conehead - Neoconocephalus velox - Female
Snowhill Road north of Cabin Branch Creek, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
June 13, 2004
Size: 62 mm
Detail of head. (They try to bite when picked up!) Came to light, chilled, posed, and released.

Shape and cone color (immaculate) appears to agree with that for N. velox shown at SINA.

N. velox? (id. note)
This is possibly N. velox, see SINA.
Early date coincides with SINA statement: " First egg-overwintering conehead to sing in the summer: June-July". Cone looks correct--immaculate. Range correct. Helfer's fig. 420, p. 271 does not quite match cone, but above illustration does. Size (large) also fits--check buzz above and ruler photo. Cf. Capinera?

ID TBA--PC. (Check Capinera, cf. N. triops, etc.)
