Red-spotted Ant Mimic - Castianeira descripta - Female
Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, USA
February 15, 2006
Size: around 6 mm
I don't have time to look this up right now. I can tell you it is very fast and falls into my spider photographing category of "glass climber". (I'm more comfortable with the non glass climbers :)

i caught a live one
i live in sw florida
and my daughter just got bit by one of these
Castianeira descripta or Castianeira occidens
not sure which one
i was freaking out i caught the spider right after it bit her it was crawling thru the bed spread and she was screaming bloody murder
and i didnt know what to do i almost took her to the er
but searching long enough and her not having any symtoms
she seems to be ok and this spider i guess is harmless i cant really find anything on these spiders
i would take a pic but my digital camera took a crap and now i dont have one i will keep him in the container and get a friends camera and post it for yall
when i can if anyone else has been bitten by one of these please reply
thx

I am NOT good at comparing pictures but I have a picture of a spider that is colored like yours at http://www.biosurvey.ou.edu/okwild/misc/amspider.html
Identified as Castianeira descripta by an expert who I can no longer name.
Family Clubionidae.

Very nice.
You're right they look very much alike. Thanks.

Gnaphosidae?
The arachnologists split up the Gnaphosidae, but it 'used' to be in that family:-) Nice image.
