Orthonevra - Orthonevra nitida

Orthonevra - Orthonevra nitida
Bunker Hill Forest Preserve, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA
July 20, 2010
Size: ~4mm
Close up image of the species we find on Eryngium yuccifolium. We don't know what it takes to get a species ID.

Moved
Moved from Orthonevra.

Two ways to get a species ID on this
1. Authority - obtain an expert opinion
2. Chutzpa - just claim your name

Call it Orthonevra nitida, if you'd like. Apparently, there are seven species, though only that one is represented here. I wonder if there really are that many - or if there ever were. Such discrepancy comes up time and time again, particularly with flies.
