Parson Spider - Herpyllus ecclesiasticus

Parson Spider - Herpyllus ecclesiasticus
In my shoe! Springfield, Virginia, USA
June 20, 2004
I found this spider in my shoe! It startled me quite a bit (sorry guys, but I've been trying to overcome years of arachniphobia). I believe it is some type of wolf spider, but need help in identifying. It's mostly black and has dark brown/reddish legs and distinctive white markings on its back. It's about 13-14mm from head to rear, though I swear it looked a lot bigger when I first saw it. I also noticed that it can't climb the walls of the plastic cup I trapped it in, though it can run pretty fast. I'll release it far away from any of my remaining footwear. Any help in identifying is appreciated.

Gnaphosid
Female - Herpyllus ecclesiasticus. Nice spider!

crap

Thanks!
Thanks for the info!
