Sulphur - Colias eurytheme - male

Sulphur - Colias eurytheme - Male
Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, USA
July 25, 2010
I was reading the ID points for the Orange Sulphur in my field guide and was sure that's what this was, until I read the ID points for the Clouded and they're almost the same. I'm still leaning toward Orange. Possible to tell?

Moved from ID Request.

A lot of it is gestalt and practice,
but yes this definitely looks like an Orange Sulphur (it was an Alfalfa Butterfly when I was a kit). As compared to Colias philodice, C. eurytheme usually has a more even look below, less dusted with dark scales on the hind wing. The wings average a tad wider and more angular in shape. The orange hue often tends to invade the color of the underside too. Some individuals are very difficult to tell apart though, and some people think they hybridize (but I'm not sure if it's ever been proven). Anyway, this one looks typical for a male Orange Sulphur to me.
