Dotted Gray - Hodges#6449 (Glena cribrataria) - Glena cribrataria - Female
Tyler County, Texas, USA
April 30, 2010
I estimate its length at about 2.5 cm (by ripples on the wall), so wingspan must have been about 5 cm. It came to our porch light; the habitat is pine/mixed woods forest with nearby pond in east TX. Thanks as usual, Wanda

Moved from ID Request.

Your photo will add Texas to the Bug Guide map. Surprising to not see other photos from Texas because this is a fairly common moth..

Thanks!
Great! I didn't realize Bug Guide had maps! This will open a whole new resource for me! And something I can contribute further to.

you probably already discovered this :-)
but just click the Data tab near the top of the page to get to the map for each species.
The maps at Bug Guide are far from being a complete picture of the range but it can help in tricky id.

looks like 6449 - Glena cribrataria
but you estimated a 5 cm wingspan? Glena cribrataria are only 20-30 mm or so.
Nice moth!

Glena cribrataria definitely
Glena cribrataria definitely looks like my moth. Maybe I'm wrong about the size. I should have made better observations about size at the time. Today I measured the ripples on our home's exterior Hardiplank to get the size "after the fact." Thanks, Wanda
