Crane Fly came to a tragic end

Crane Fly came to a tragic end
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
July 26, 2010
Some interesting bit of natural history here, perhaps. This crane fly carcass was in some damp moss in a ravine near my house, the body largely taken over by the white.

add it to Mushroom Observer!
the site can use all the entomopathogenic sightings it can get!

Looks like
the same kind that gets the caddisflies.

Similar, but...
that is a caddisfly-specific fungus. This is presumably a fly-specific one, if not crane fly-specific. I've seen it a few times but never really tried to figure out exactly what kind of fungus it might be.

I've added this one to the fungus gallery.
