Moved tentatively. At least two of us amateurs seem to agree on the ID, and it seems fairly distinctive, so... we'll put it here until someone tells us to move it. :)

Wild stab here...
Maybe something in Rhopalosomatidae? It bears a resemblance to Rhopalosoma:

...I don't know if it's any consolation, but I spent some time too...then decided I wasn't really sure enough to suggest...so, I think you did pretty good!
