Orchard Spider - Plesiometa argyra - female

Orchard Spider - Plesiometa argyra - Female
Venice, Sarasota County, Florida, USA
February 21, 2006
Size: Maybe 1/2 inch
This is the top, bottom will be second pic. It kinda looks like the Orchard Spiders in the guide but there is no yellow that I can see and pattern is a little different.

This looks more like
Leucauge argyra to us which has the yellow and orange more subdued than L. venusta. Check it out here to see what you think. Jeff will probably be able to confirm an ID.

Thanks
Those are the photos I was using for ID because they were the closest in pattern but I was confused because they were still not the same.

Moved
images to species.

Wow! Why the new genus, Jeff
We should probably add something to the info pages describing the move to a new genus since L. argyra is still listed in the Leucauge page.

This
genus was named by F.O.P.C. in 1903. It is Greek in origin and means 'close to Meta'.
Synonymized under Leucauge 1980 as a result of being a single species that was very similar to Leucauge. Since then, undescribed Plesiometa species have been collected making Plesiometa a distinct genus.(1)

Removed from Leucauge page.
