small carabid - Acupalpus

small carabid - Acupalpus
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
February 22, 2006
Size: 3.9 mm
Found this small ground beetle wandering in an empty house that was being remodeled. He was very dirty for this shot and the image required considerable clone stamping in PhotoShop to make him look presentable. Here he has paused for a drink from a water droplet -- one way to get a thirsty carabid to hold still so its picture can be taken.

my guess is: Acupalpus -
- or Bradycellus, but less probable.

Thank you, Boris.
Although you were not confident of this ID I created a page for Acupalpus and placed this beetle there. Perhaps we can lure a carabid specialist to inspect our work :-)
