Dasymutilla - Dasymutilla sackenii - Female
Burton Mesa, a bit north of Lompoc, Santa Barbara County, California, USA

Found busily searching in sand along (dry) creek in a somewhat deep gully in (more or less) coastal scrub. (Well, there were also assorted carcasses of old cars driven off the low bluff above...and other assorted flotsom & trash).

I'm speculating that this (female) is a Dasymutilla sackenii. But I'm not very certain, so posting it here for correction or confirmation.
