Paper Wasp (Polistes metricus) with Strepsiptera parasitic larvae attached to abdomen. - Xenos peckii
Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, USA
August 2, 2010
This wasp was very sluggish when I caught it on the side of my house in the morning. I noticed that there was something strange about the abdomen when I first saw it but didn't identify the parasites until after I looked at the macro photo. Afterwards, I let the wasp go but it was having a hard time taking off.
