Robber Fly? - Promachus rufipes - female

Robber Fly? - Promachus rufipes - Female
Sewanee, Franklin County, Tennessee, USA
August 1, 2010
While I watched a hummingbird moth, it was snatched and held down on a leaf near me. It appeared that the predator was killing it, as the hummingbird moth struggled a bit. Is the killer a robber fly?

Since I unlinked your images,
you may want to edit your remarks here (and perhaps add some to the photo of the Horse Fly).

Edit?
I am not sure what I can add except that as I watched the hummingbird moth, it was snatched and held on a leaf in front of me. You have suggested that this is a robber fly, for which I thank you!

I meant
that you might want to delete the reference to the second photo (since it is no longer linked to this one).

Oh!
Now I understand! Thanks!
