Not certain but...
... there is a virtually identical photo of a Blinded sphinx caterpillar, Paonias excaecatus, on page 262 of David Wagner's Caterpillars of Eastern North America. He writes that "this sphinx is highly variable and somewhat difficult to recognize, especially in the earlier instars."

 
I brought it home
I'll try rearing it, and taking pictures as it matures. If I don't kill it, we should be able to figure it out in a week or two.

 
I'd say
Paonias excaecatus too, but lets wait like you said to be sure.

 
Which one now?
Since I added pictures of it I think are 5th instar, do you think it's the Blinded or the Small-eyed?
