Snipe fly? - Rhagio tringarius - male

Snipe fly? - Rhagio tringarius - Male
Somme Prairie Grove, Cook County, Illinois, USA
June 27, 2010

Moved
Moved from Rhagio.

Rhagio tringarius
Can't say for certain without looking at a habitus shot but it looks to be the European Rhagio tringarius

Habitat is an oak savanna wit
Habitat is an oak savanna with prairie pockets

Species addition.
By the way sort of off topic but do you know where I would go to move photos to species catagory or create a new species group? The Rhagio section only appears to have 3 of the 6 species I've identified on the site listed (R. hirtus, R. lineola, and R. gracilis are missing). As well I would like to upload some reference photos for a few other Eastern neartic Rhagio from the CNC collection not shown on here.

Thanks

Are you an administrator? If not I can do it?

Nope
Oh, I was unaware only administrator could move photos and editing groupings.

In that case could you please add for common name of Rhagio tringarius (Linnaeus, 1758) Marsh Snipe fly

and Rhagio lineola Fabricius, 1794 common name = Small Fleck-winged Snipe fly

As well move:

To R. hirtus

To R. lineola

Thanks

Thanks
Thanks for all your help. Will you please let me know when you ID a non-native species so I can add it to the "List of non-native arthropods".
You can add a comment on that page or on this one; either way I get it. Thanks again.
Also it would be nice if you comment on the sex of the specimens when it is recognizable. It seems that many of these flies are easy to tell apart and it would be nice to add that to the data fields if possible.
Is this a male?

Ok will update tongiht...also
Ok will update tongiht...also how to move images from one spot to another:

How do I move an image from "ID Request" to the guide, to another spot in the guide, or to "Frass"?

First, tag all the images that you want to move to a particular spot. They will appear to the left of the page to remind you what's been tagged. Then browse to the desired spot and you should see a "move tagged images" link. For the guide, be sure to click the "images" tab just like you would to submit an image at that spot.

My apologies
Sorry I meant to say lateral shot, but judgeing by the lack of infuscation on the distal third of hind femur, it is probably Rhagio tringarius.
