Small beetle, or larva?

Small beetle, or larva?
Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California, USA
January 28, 2009
Size: maybe 2-4mm
I shot these photos over a year and a half ago, then decided that they were to vague to ID. But it still bugs me to know nothing of them. In shape they remind me of ladybug larva a bit, though much paler and smaller than the ones that I recognize.

Thanks, Brad for the additional ID specification.
This is / was my first mealy bug. They seem pretty strange things, and only on the edge of my ability to photograph. I was using a diopter to bump my magnification, and although the results can be fascinating, even familiar things become strange to me when I get much above 1 to 1 magnification!

a mealubug of sorts, i suppose

Thanks , V!
I guess this is what mealy bug destroyers destroy!?
