Size: ~ 3 mm
Galls on meadow sweet, Spiraea latifolia var. alba (or is it Spiraea alba?). They tell me that when the larvae turn bright orange like this one they are about ready to pupate. Also, they reproduce by paedogenesis (reproduccion by larvae) during the spring and early summer, but now they may be starting to produce adults. I will try to get one.

Moved
Moved from Gall Midges.

Thanks
Too bad I never got the adults and I am not going back to Maine next year. Sigh!

Cecidomyiinae
All the true gall midges, those that form plant galls, are in subfamily Cecidomyiinae. The other "gall midge" subfamilies are ecologically fungus gnats.
