I don't know why the elytra seem out of focus on the bugguide version of this image because they were very sharp on my orginal photo.

 
Down-sizing
The full-resolution version that editors can see looks ok. Usually the process of converting to a lower resolution works fine, but this is an exception.

As I understand it, the program takes neighboring pixels and "averages" them according to some formula so it can fit the same data in fewer pixels. When very narrow features like the striations on the elytra are right next to each other, the light part and its shadow cancel each other out when averaged.

Perhaps you can use your own editing software to shrink it to 560 pixels first (it may take some tinkering with conversion settings to get it right) and upload it as an additional image.
